This tour offers an exciting mountain biking adventure combined with exploration of Bulgaria’s rich historical and cultural heritage. You will enjoy daily mountain biking through scenic trails and open roads, as well as learn a lot about the history of the region from the period of the ancient Thracians and Romans to the birth of the modern Bulgarian nation. The Bulgarian national cuisine and local wine tasting opportunities will add up to your experience of the country. 

Tour highlights:

► Plovdiv - Bulgaria’s second largest city often referred as its cultural capital.
Biking in Sredna Gora Mountain - Due to its central location, Sredna Gora reveals marvelous sights all around – views to the Balkan Mountains to the north, Rhodopi and Rila Mountains to the south, as well as to the vast Thracian Valley.
Hissar – an ancient town with many Roman ruins – including a several km wall, encircling the modern center. The place is well known for its 22 healing mineral springs. Nowadays Hissar is a famous SPA center.
Koprivshtitsa –  the most interesting, beautiful and the notable Bulgarian town from the Revival period, known for its genuine architecture and revolutionary history.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Plovdiv
Arrival to Sofia Airport, transfer to Plovdiv and overnight at a hotel in the Old town.

Day 2: Hissar - Sokolitsa 
A short transfer brings us at the town of Hissar, where we visit some of the ancient Roman ruins and mineral springs, for which the town is famous for. In the afternoon we start our bike ride through high meadows and picturesque rock formations towards the Fenera hut. After gaining some elevation we descent to the valley of Stryama river and continue towards the village of Sokolitsa, where we stay for overnight.
Biking: 32km, uphill/downhill: 550m/650m

Day 3: Sokolitsa - Bogdan hut
We descend to a small tourist complex, surrounded by vast vineyards and offering wine tasting in its specially designed cellars. In the afternoon we take on a long ascent towards a hut located beneath the highest peak of the mountain – Bogdan (1600m). Overnight at the hut.
Biking: 45 km, uphill/downhill: 1032m/406m

Day 4: Bogdan hut - Koprivstitsa
After breakfast we start a long descent to the valley of Topolnitsa river and then continue to the town of Koprivstitsa, where we spend the rest of the day exploring the unique architecture and culture of the city, considered to be one of the most significant centers of the Bulgarian revival movement. Overnight at the city.
Biking 18km, uphill/downhill: 230m/654m

Day 5: Departure day
Transfer to the airport for departure

Good to know:
►Bikes: hardtail mountain bike DRAG 27.5 Hardy COMP and RAM HT 1/2
►Terrain: The terrain is versatile. You will bike mostly on nice dirt and gravel roads, isolated asphalt roads and some forest paths. Biking is made on an altitude from 200 m to 1550 m including elevation of up to 1032 m and downhill riding up to 800 m.
►You can extend the daily rides with some biking in the region of the accommodation place (upon request)
