This tour will bring you to the north-western corner of Bulgaria, known for its beautiful and wild landscapes as well as unique sandstone rock formations seen nowhere else. During the trip you will enjoy riding on great panoramic bike trails, and experiencing the Bulgarian culture through meeting the hospitable local people and tasting the national cuisine. A combination of biking adventure and cultural exploration, this trip could be a lifetime experience to be remembered.

Tour highlights:

♦ Belogradchik Fortress: Also known as Kaleto (its Turkish name), the Belogradchick Fortress is one of the most significant and spectacular cultural sites of Bulgaria. It used to be a strategic fortification point during the Roman, Medieval and Ottoman periods of the region (each leaving its architectural footprint on the site), which makes it one of the most visited national landmarks of Bulgaria. Besides its rich historical background the fortress also offers the best view to the surrounding rock formations.

♦ Belogradchik Rocks:
Dating back to the Permian period about 230 million years ago, and covering an area of 50 km2, the Belograchik Rocks are undoubtedly one of the most unique natural sights to be found on the Balkans. The strange shaped sandstone and conglomerate formations (some reaching a height of 200 m) have inspired the imagination of the local people, creating an entire folklore around some of the more picturesque rocks.

♦ Magurata Cave: A 15-million-year-old cave, reaching 2.5 km in length, Magura is considered to be one of the most important and extended European post-Palaeolithic painted caves. Its prehistoric paintings are still an object of anthropological investigation, drawing cave explorers from all over the world.
