Follow the coastal road with splendid sea views and live the adventures from 'Captain Corelli's Mandolin'. Enjoy the steep cliffs, beautiful sandy beaches, lush vegetation, tiny idyllic bays and mysterious caves. Sip a glass of local Robola wine together with the locals in an authentic atmosphere. A possible bike tour on Odysseus' island of Ithaka completes this beautiful tour.
Good equipment awaits you upon arrival in the village Moussata, your first stay of this tour. It is possible to opt for a hybrid bike or an e-bike (Trek T-500+). The e-bike, or electric bike makes cycling uphill as much fun as cycling downhill!

Itinerary:

Day 1. Arrival - Kefallonia.
Your trip starts with a transfer from the airport or port to your accommodation in Moussata. Here you can relax at the swimming pool or maybe you want to make an afternoon short trip through the green surroundings to try out your bicycle? That is possible as the bicycles are available right away after you arrive.

Day 2. Mousata - Poros - Pastra - Skala - Katelios - Mousata
Today you can choose between 2 different routes that take you to the eastern part of Kefalonia. Routes are 40 or 50 km in length. The trip towards Poros is a wonderful first tour. You cycle on a rather flat road whilst enjoying panoramic views towards the crystal clear Ionian Sea and the nearby island of Zakynthos. At the village of Pastra you take the turn towards the coast and descend. You will see houses that date back to the period before the major earthquake of 1953.
Arriving at the coast you either make an extra short trip to the seaside village of Skala, where you can admire the Roman Mosaic in an ancient Roman Villa. The shorter route takes you directly to the pittoresque fishing village Katelios, where you may visit an information center about the sea turtles.
From Katelios you cycle back to Mousata.

Day 3. Mousata - Argostoli - Keramies - Metaxata - Kourkoumetata - Lixouri - Paliki - Mousata
You will cycle to Argostoli today, the capital of Kefalonia and the place where Captain Corelli was based and met Pelagia.
The longer trip also leads you around the peninsula Paliki.
You will cycle via minor roads along tiny villages as Keramies, Metaxata and Kourkoumetata. In Argostoli you may relax in a seaside café. If you are lucky, you will see seaturtles near the fishing boats in the small port.
In case you opt for the longer trip, you will cross to Lixouri per small ferry and then cycle around the peninsula Paliki where German troops were based during the WWII. It is a weird landcape with eroded rocks alternated with green valleys and historic villages at the spectacular west coast. After the tour you return to Argostoli per ferry.
Via Lakithra you will cycle back to Moussata.

Day 4. Mousata - Agia Efimia
Todays magnificent trip leads you along Argostoli to the north. You come along the presumed village of Pelagia and come to the view point of Myrtos Beach. From here you cross the island via a wonderful scenic route along numerous traditional villages. At the end of today’s trip you descend to Agia Efimia, a pretty seaside village with a nice marina.

Day 5. Sami
Today you have time to relax. You may visit the Drogarati Cave and the Melissani Lake near Sami, followed by a bike tour to the beautiful bay of Andisamos to go for a swim. These Beach was a scene in the movie ‘Captain Corelli’s Mandolin’ (2001). The trip is 26 km and 350 m ascend all together.

Day 6. Fiscardo
Today you will cycle a circular tour along the fishing village of Fiscardo. First you pass by the picturesque village of Assos located on the isthmus of the peninsula with its fortress. Fiscardo is no doubt the most beautiful village of the island, as it is the only village that has been left undamaged by the earthquake of 1953. Pelagia and Captain Corelli did this trip very romantic on their motorcycle. Todays most demanding day of the program leads you through scarcely inhabited areas scattered with tiny villages. You will enjoy terrific views on the island of Ithaca. In case you don’t go all the way up to Fiscardo, the route is 42km.

Day 7. Agia Efimia - Mousata
Your cycle trip on Kefalonia ends with a demanding, but really nice trip from Agia Efimia back to Mousata.
First you cycle along the coast to Sami, then you cycle inland towards the Aenos pass. The mountain Aenos is covered with a special tree, the endemic species Abies Cephalonica, and is proclaimed a National Park.
Then you descend through a beautiful landscape with Robola vineyards in the Omala-valley. The Robolla wine is a famous white wine. You may visit the local winery for wine tasting. Nearby is also the monastery of Agios Gerasimos, the center of Greek-Orthodox religion in Kefalonia.
From Omala you cycle back to Mousata.
